Payment Methods

Personal Checks, Company Checks, Cahiers Checks, Bank Drafts, etc.

Forget it! Nobody will take a check from a bank outside of Mexico. They might take from a local bank, but to open a bank account in Mexico is a
major ordeal. Even if you have a local bank account, it will take about 30 days for funds to be available from a deposit made by a check of foreign origin.

Traveler’s Checks
This is the best way to bring money into Mexico. They are accepted at full face value in place of currency and can be exchanged for cash at any
bank or money exchange, as long as you have a passport or picture I.D (driver’s license).

Cash
The U.S. dollar is accepted almost everywhere. The dollar value fluctuates a little from day to day and sometimes a little from place to place.
Both banks and money exchanges can be found throughout Cabo San Lucas. The banks usually offer the best exchange rate, but sometimes it is not worth the wait in line. Generally, you will find that the exchange rate
at the airport is not as good as the exchange rates offered in Cabo San Lucas.

Credit Cards
Visa, Mastercard, and American Express are commonly accepted credit cards in Cabo San Lucas. Many, but not all, establishments accept this
payment method. Some banks will allow you to make a cash draw against a credit card, but it will be for a limited amount on a daily basis.
